Last month, our Mabel Manning branch (6 S Hoyne) was pleased to host Chicago Blackhawks left winger Patrick Sharp, where he read his favorite kids book, The Magic Hockey Stick, to a group of neighborhood kids. Blackhawks TV was there to document the special afternoon (above).

Tonight, the Hawks are hosting us for Library Night and we’re hoping to add to the team’s recent string of good fortune. The Blackhawks will recognize their strong partnership with CPL, anchored by the team’s sponsorship of our Teacher in the Library and CyberNavigators programs at Mabel Manning.

Chicago Public Library is honored to be recognized tonight at the United Center. Good luck to the Hawks, as they face off with the Dallas Stars and shoot for five straight wins!

Robert Frost would have been 138 years old today. An interesting fact about one of the most well-known and beloved of American poets is that he didn’t publish a book of poems until after he was 40. So for those of you who think poetry is a young person’s game, think again. It’s never too late to start.

This is a bridge in Paris. You hang locks on it with the name of you & your boyfriend/girlfriend/best-friend then throw the key into the river. So even though the friend/relationship may end, you can’t remove the lock. It stays there forever, as relevance to someone once a part of your life.
